Artist talk with Genna Gurvich.

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Genna Gurvich is a conceptual, multi-disciplinary artist based in Baltimore. He is a graduate of the Kyiv Institute of Applied Arts and Design and has a Master’s degree of Complex Design from the St. Petersburg Academy of Art and Industry (Russia). Of late, his practice has been rooted in the refraction of technology and personal identity. His “pixellations” explore the fragmented intersections between analog points of reference (art history, movie posters, stock photography) and their digital recreations. This exploration had also led him to the discovery of digital reduction. By means of using the pixel as both a symbol and an expressive tool, he is able to render new constructions, that can be either figurative or abstract depending on concept. With new technologies transforming how art is made, the idea of the pixel has become his primary visual vocabulary and best known body of work.
